Ever since EVO ended last month, Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi had a tough time finding consistent success. In the current weather of rising Street Fighter stars, players like Sim “NL” Gun, Cristopher “Caba” Rodriguez, and EVO champion Benjamin “Problem X” Simon are taking over the scene. In the last two events Tokido attended, he did not finish in the top eight. Knowing his constant top-eight finishes in prior events, recent showings were uncharacteristic for Tokido. Going into the event, Tokido sat in third in the Capcom Cup standings. Calm, cool, and collected, Tokido went into the battlefield with one thing in mind — win Tokyo Game Show.

SoCal Regionals 2018 Recap

Echo Fox looks to continue their best year yet in fighting games. Players coming off championship wins like Justin “JWong” Wong and Dominique “SonicFox” McLean are continuing their momentum from EVO and Dreamhack Montreal. Even though EVO is behind the player’s minds, the year does not stop for fighting games. SoCal Regionals in Ontario, California took place last weekend for pride and points towards the Capcom Pro Tour, Tekken World Tour, and Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour.

Dreamhack Montreal is the major event for Shadowverse to be viewed by a mass audience. Echo Fox players, Cure Mango and Gengur, well represented the team throughout the weekend. Justin Wong came out to support the boys this weekend in hopes of taking home first place.

The mecca of fighting games came and gone this weekend. Upsets occurred and new blood rose to prove their worth in this current weather of FGC stars and legends. A new game is making its huge debut on the big stage with a Fox that has plenty to prove. Two other games featuring defending champions that wants to prove he is still the best in the world. EVO returned to the bright lights of Las Vegas for another year.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite – First Impressions from Justin Wong

The latest iteration of the “Marvel vs.” series released on September 19th with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Unlike Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, MvC:I features 2v2 combat, akin to Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. New changes include the implementation of Infinity Stones. There are six Infinite Stones in the game, each one granting the player different abilities and buffs. These range from an increase to attack damage to adding elemental damage with each attack. Other changes include the replacement of the assist method. A new system called “Active Switch” replaces the assist method, calling in and giving you full control of your second character while your first character completes a maneuver before backing away. With NCR finished, Justin Wong set his focus on last week’s ELEAGUE matchups.

The first week of group stage play in ELEAGUE saw Punk advancing to playoffs after defeating Brolynho and Smug. Our Fighting Fox Yusuke Momochi managed to overcome a loss to win two consecutive matches in the lower bracket, earning him the second playoff spot out of Group A.
