The Shanghai Dragons announced via Twitter that Chao “Undead” Fang was released from the team. Since the Overwatch League started, the Shanghai Dragons have yet to win their first game. A bright spot from these games is Undead was performing decently until his departure. He tried to carry games using heroes like Widowmaker, McCree, and Soldier: 76. The continued losses put an immense amount of pressure and stress on the team — so much so that their other DPS player Weida “Diya” Lu took time away to tend to family affairs.

Get to Know Echo Fox’s Pineaqples

Known for his montages across social media channels such as YouTube, Reddit, and Twitch, Miguel “Pineaqples” Lopez has impressed fans and other professionals with his skills.

Pineaqples got his start in competitive gaming with shooters like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. He and his friends all decided to base their names on fruits, and thus the name Pineaqples was born. He decided to add the q to his name to stand for “quality,” a descriptor for how well he plays.

He later moved on to games such as League of Legends and World of Warcraft, but one day, Pinaqples found H1Z1. With every game he’s played, Pinaqples felt a need to be the best player he could possibly be. H1Z1 gave him a platform to be one of the best players in the world.

He first made his name known to the professional H1Z1 scene during the 2016 H1Z1 Invitational at Twitchcon. Daybreak Games held a contest in which players submitted their best gameplay montages and the winner was chosen for creativity, presentation, and skill.

Pineaqples was deemed worthy of the opportunity to play in the invitational alongside many other professionals players, including current Echo Fox general manager, Justin “Mini” Summe. He impressed the crowd and finished in 6th place at the invitational.

Pineaqples credits his parents with much of his success in becoming a professional player, saying “my parents supported me every step of the way while I was streaming. When I made it to the level of professional play, they were extremely proud.”

Following the 2016 H1Z1 Invitational, he competed in the H1Z1 Fight for the Crown which aired on national television network The CW. He fought alongside current Echo Fox player, Ryan “Crank” Grandy, earning a respectable 5th place finish.

Later in the same year, he participated in the H1Z1 Elite Series and finished in 5th place. His top results at these events caught the attention of Echo Fox. Shortly thereafter, he was signed to the Echo Fox H1Z1 team.

Since 2015, Pineaqples has continued to impress fans with top performances at numerous events such as Dreamhack and his latest performance at the 2018 Royalty Showdown.

As we near the start of the H1Z1 Pro League season, Pineaqples is excited to get playing. “H1PL is the opportunity we’ve been waiting for, I’m glad all the years of grinding H1Z1 paid off. I’m looking forward to almost all of my friends moving out to Las Vegas and living together for the first season.”

That’s not to say that his preparation for the start of competition is all fun and games. The entire Echo Fox H1Z1 team has been bootcamping and participating in daily scrimmages in preparation for the main event.

The action starts for the H1Z1 Pro League on April 21st as Pineaqples looks to help carry Echo Fox to the top of the H1Z1 Pro League.

Last week, the London Spitfire formally parted ways with their head coach, Beom-joon “Bishop” Lee. Bishop helped lead the London Spitfire to the Stage 1 championship against the New York Excelsior in a spectacular 5-game set. Prior to being brought in by the Cloud9 organization, he along with current London Spitfire players Ji-hyeok “birdring” Kim and Seung-tae “Bdosin” Choi achieved 2nd place at APEX Season 3 as Team Kongdoo Panthera. Although the London Spitfire achieved success thus far in the Overwatch League, it did not equate to a positive morale within the team. From Rod “Slasher” Breslau’s tweet, players requested Bishop’s release from the team.
